5 Dude, I Didn’t Even Know What to Expect ?
dude . . . for real, where do I start here? I’ve never done dance or martial arts, so I had no idea what to expect walking into Mestre Jamaika’s Capoeira class. All I knew was that I’d seen him perform before, and it was the most unique movement I’d ever witnessed—I knew I had to try it. The moment I walked in, I was greeted by so many welcoming faces. The vibe is unreal—it’s full of love, warmth, and a real sense of community. You don’t just show up to learn Capoeira; you show up to make friends. Mestre Jamaika’s instruction is super clear, and even though I felt awkward and out of my element at first, he helped me settle in quickly, even in a larger class. He’s patient, intuitive, and seriously skilled at what he does. He knows how to guide you without pressure, and you can feel how much he cares about your growth. If you’re looking to experience something totally new, learn from someone genuine, and open your eyes to another culture, Mestre Jamaika is the guy to know. It’s been an amazing way to move my body and explore something I never thought I’d do!
HELPFULSalt Lake Capoeira for Kids
Capoeira began over 500 years ago when the Africans who were taken to Brazil and enslaved trained to fight while disguising it as a dance. Today, Mestre Jamaika teaches kids through adults of all levels, all aspects of capoeira: strength, flexibility, movement, endurance, coordination, vocal and instrumental skills, cultural awareness, confidence, teamwork, and community. In this authentic capoeira class for kids, we seek to improve our physical and mental health as we work together to strengthen our community. We invite parents to enroll their kids of all ages in our hands-on capoeira class and see how it can transform your child's life and friendships.
